3 times manufacturers saved time with Certificates of Analysis

In the times of Industry 4.0, automation is like a smart shortcut. It cuts down the long road of manual work paved with routine tasks and time-consuming challenges. Creating a Certificate of Analysis (COA) is one of these tedious tasks that manufacturers need to perform to report the quality of their products.

With changing legislation, outsourcing, and organizations expanding globally, the demand for COAs across the industry has only been growing. What is the most efficient way to issue these documents and send them to customers? And are there other advantages to using AlisQI for COAs? We’re about to find out.

The more efficient way of creating and sending COAs

The shortcut version of issuing Certificates of Analysis with AlisQI involves creating templates that can be reused time and time again. COA templates align with your corporate branding and can be automatically populated with the descriptive details and measurements you need to have sent out. This means, you no longer have to look for answers and dig up information about batches with individual dimensions and properties.

AlisQI enables manufacturers to create templates per product, per customer, or even a combination of product and customer. This handy option ensures that no matter the type of COA that you need to provide, you’re only a few simple clicks away. The 20-second video below shows just how fast you can complete this task and generate a Certificate of Analysis in PDF format.

From time consuming to time saving

Allnex, a leading manufacturer of industrial coating resins, crosslinkers, and additives chose AlisQI to monitor their products and analyze the large amounts of quality control data. “The automotive sector, in particular, is a discerning industry, demanding resins of the highest purity level and consistent quality. It is challenging to deliver constant quality with batch production and given that we produce various products in each batch reactor,” said Peter Dousma, Quality Control Manager of Allnex.

Using AlisQI to boost quality and safeguard their product also meant that COAs were no longer an individual effort “A Certificate of Analysis is automatically attached to each charge, which offers the client a guarantee that the product meets their specifications,” continues Dousma.

For manufacturers who collect and analyze large amounts of data, access to that data can make the difference between time consuming and time saving. Diversey, a global market leader in industrial hygiene and cleaning solutions said that the fragmentation of data made the issuance of Certificates of Analysis increasingly time consuming. Complaint handling was also challenging because the data overview to support a good workflow model just wasn’t there.

“With the introduction of AlisQI we have everything in one place,” said Ruud Nijlant, Site Manager at Diversey. “This saves us a lot of time and money, and it is absolutely clear who did what, when, and where. “We have been able to create a standard report on complaints and internal deviations.”

Manufacturers in the chemicals industry are not the only ones who have experienced a change in how they issue and send out COAs. Kompak, a company that mixes and packages for big brands such as Unilever and Ecover, noticed a major difference once their lab analyses had been inputted in AlisQI. The generation of Certificates of Analysis and the coupling of the certificates with the right batches was suddenly almost automated.

Discussion

Certificates of Analysis are used to report the quality of products. Traditionally, issuing these documents was relatively time consuming and complicated. Nowadays, increasingly more manufacturers have started to issue PDF documents per batch to achieve compliance. Still, there is no industry standard to synchronize quality data between supply chain partners, so that the final product data is available in real-time in the QMS/LIMS of the client.

Having an industry standard, would eliminate the need for manual evaluation of the COA. Modern-day solutions like AlisQI can receive data, automatically validate specs, and implement custom business logic to automatically assess the quality and completeness of reporting. This would add to the list of time savers and bring the whole COA process to a completely new level.
